Climatic Characteristics of Beidaihe

Located in a warm temperate zone at mid-latitudes, Beidaihe has a continental climate characterized by warm temperature, semi-humidity and the monsoon. On the other hand, as regulated by the ocean, Beidaihe also has characteristics of a maritime climate, namely, more wind, high humidity, an appropriate level of rainfall and agreeable weather.

In Beidaihe, the average number of sunshine hours in a year is 2700-2850 and the average percentage of annual sunshine time is 62%. The conditions are conducive to sunbathing. Also, the mean temperature for July, August and September is 22.86ºC. In July, the hottest month in a year, the mean temperature is 24.6ºC. In a year, only 18.5 days have temperatures higher than 30ºC and only 0.9 day has the temperature higher than 35ºC. Regulated by the sea and land breeze, it only has a very short time span of high temperature in a day. The temperature here in summer is 2-3ºC lower than that of Beijing. The air quality of Beidaihe is excellent. The number of days in a year with the air quality in Grade I or Grade II accounts for over 85%. In the Beidaihe Beach Resort, the air measures a large number of negative oxygen ions in addition to oxygen, iodine and chemical compounds like sodium chloride. The density of negative oxygen ions reaches 4000 units/cubic centimeter, 10 to 20 times higher than that of average cities.
