Lianfengshan Hills ( Hills of Joined Peaks)
On the western side of the Beidaihe Beach Resort stand Lianfengshan hills (Joined Peaks). Owing to its resemblance to a lotus pod in shape, it is also known as Lianpengshan Hills (Hills of Lotus Pod). Rising by the seashore, the hills stretch over five kilometers from east to west, forming a magnificent screen for the sea. The peak is on the Donglianfeng Hill (Eastern Lotus Hill) at the elevation of 153 meters.
The hill ridges are of delicate beauty. Secluded paths lead to the dense wood. Strange rocks are abundant. Odd caves are common sights. The exuberant pines and cypresses set off mansions of various styles, providing additional charm and delight for the tourists.
This scenic spot is characterized by a nice blend of the sea and hills, an abundance of lush vegetation, tranquility with breathtaking views. Main attractions include Sea Admiring Pavilion (Wanghai ting), Lotus Stone (Lianhua shi), Guanyin Temple (Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy), Zhujia Grave (Zhujia fen), and Birds Singing Forest (Niaoyu lin). It is ideal for a panoramic view of the vast sea and the scenery around the hills and also for exploring serenity in the woods.

Yingjiaoshi Park (Eagle Stone Park)
Yingjiaoshi (Eagle Stone) Park is situated in a promontory on a corner of the East Hill along the Beidaihe seashore. A huge rock as tall as 20 meters lies on a cliff by the sea. The bare outcrop is shaped like something between eagle and falcon, flying for inspection of the sea in a dauntless manner. Thus, it is named Yingjiaoshi (Eagle-shaped Stone). Countless years of pounding waves has scored the rock with cracks and holes, which serve wild doves as ideal nesting places. So locally, the rock is also known as “Dove Nest” (Geziwo). The park has main attractions as follows: Eagle-shaped Stone (Yingjiao shi), Yingjiao Pavilion (Yingjiao ting), Sea Admiring Corridor (Wanghai changting), the Statue of Chairman Mao (Maozhuxi diaoxiang) and Magnificent Sunrise (Yuri qiguan).
Geziwo (Dove Nest) Park lures visitors mainly due to its advantageous position to watch the sunrise. In the holiday season, tourists come as early as possible to admire the majestic sunrise over the sea.

First Pass under Heaven
Shanhaiguan or Shanhai Pass is considered the No. 1 pass of the Great Wall, and therefore, is also known as the First Pass under Heaven. This scenic spot comprises the formidable strategic pass of the Great Wall in addition to Jingbian Tower (Jingbian lou), Linlv Tower (Linlv lou), Muying Tower (Muying lou), Weiyuantang Tower (Weiyuan tang), Wengcheng (an enclosure for defense outside a city gate), Dongluo Tower (Dongluo cheng), and the Great Wall Museum. The Shanhai Pass, as a strategic fortress, was heavily fortified in ancient times. These constructions showcase the architectural style of ancient China and exhibit a mighty momentum.

Laolongtou (Old Dragon’s Head)
On a seaside height situated five kilometers south of the Shanhai Pass, Laolongtou (Old Dragon’s Head) itself forms a promontory jugging into the Bohai Sea. At the elevation of 25 meters, the promontory is backed by mountains and adjoins the sea with the Great Wall towering aloft along the seashore. Capitalizing on its geographical location in conjunction with the delicately built military defense work, Laolongtou, the marine and land fortress possessing military significance, is true to its name.
The Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty starts from Laolongtou in the easternmost end, where the Great Wall meets the sea and where the Great Wall winds its way westward over towering and precipitous mountains, across rivers and lakes and through vast deserts, directly to the northwestern China.
Ascending Laolongtou, with the rough and misty sea in the front, tourists can appreciate the majestic scenery as depicted in the verse: “Strong winds swept through the sky, blowing the sun and making clouds run. Pounding waves surge high, resembling falling snow from height”.
Main attractions consist of Estuary Stone City (Ruhai shicheng), Jinglu Watchtower (Jinglv tai), Clear Sea Tower (Chenghai lou), Ninghai City (Ninghai cheng), and the Ocean God Temple (Haishen miao).

Jiaoshan Mountain (Horn Mountain)
Jiaoshan is located three kilometers north of the Shanhai Pass and belongs to the branch of the Yanshan Mountains. Among those mountains standing in the northern part of the town serving as a defense, it is the highest one at the elevation of 519 meters. The name of Jiaoshan is derived from the shape of its major peak, Dapingding. Flat and wide with giant stones standing on it, Dapingding (Flat Peak) resembles a dragon horn. So the mountain is named Jiaoshan (literally, Horn Mountain). As Jiaoshan is the first mountain that the Great Wall, starting from Laolongtou (Old Dragon’s Head), surmounts after the Shanhai Pass, it is also known as “the First Mountain of the Great Wall”.
Jiaoshan Mountain is a well-known scenic spot in Shanhaiguan District, with a blend of scenic beauty and places of historical interest. It used to be and is an ideal place for sightseeing and expressing feelings by verse.
Main attractions comprise the Jiaoshan Section of the Great Wall (Jiaoshan changcheng), Hanmen Pass (Hanmen guan), Jiaoshan Cablecar (Jiaoshan suodao), and Qixian Temple (Qixian si).

Mengjiangnv Temple (Temple of Lady Mengjiang)
Mengjiangnv Temple (Temple of Lady Mengjiang), also known as Temple of Chastity, is situated on the top of a small hill of North Phoenix Mountain in Wangfushi Village, six and a half kilometers east of the Shanhai Pass. The temple was built in Wangli Reign of the Ming Dynasty. In 1956, it was among the first which became a major historic and cultural site under protection of Hebei Province. In 1993, the Government of Shanhaiguan District invested in building a large-scale landscape architecture at the back of the temple. The architecture is named Garden of Lady Mengjiang, adding fresh content into the scenic spot.
The whole scenic spot is well laid out in a picturesque pattern. Around the temple, lush vegetation sets off black bricks and red tiles, making the temple extraordinarily simple and tranquil.
Main attractions comprise Long Staircase (Changjie), Mountain Gate (Shanmen), Front Hall (Qiandian), Back Hall (Houdian), Looking out for Husband (Wangfushi), Dressing Table (Shuzhuangtai), Zhenyi Pavilion (Zhenyi ting), Bell Pavilion (Zhongting) and Grave of Lady Mengjiang (Jiangnv fen).

Yansai Lake
Three and a half kilometers northwest of the Shanhai Pass (Shanhaiguan), Yansai Lake (Yansai hu) occupies a strategic location along the Yanshan Mountains. The lake was made in 1974 by building dams and storing water and used to be Stone River Reservoir (Shihe shuiku). Now Yansai Lake becomes a scenic spot, famed for precipitous cliffs, undulating ridges, shimmering mid-lake, and dark green water. Since Yansai Lake boasts a landscape as precipitous as that in the Three Gorges and as beautiful as that in Guilin, it is also called “Little Three Gorges” and “Small Guilin in North China”.
Main attractions include Sword Hacking a Cave (Dongshan jianfeng), Crescent Isle (Shanzhong yuejing), 1000-year-old Tortoise (Guishi qianqiu), and Sun Admiring by a Fairy Maiden (Shennv yuri).

Shangshoushan Mountain (Longevity Mountain)
The scenic spot is situated about nine kilometers northeast of the Shanhai Pass, Qinhuangdao City. This is a comprehensive scenic spot featuring the natural landscape of Longevity Mountain and the theme of longevity expressed in forms of sculptures, architecture and calligraphy.
In the spot, tourists can take unique delight in the mountain and the water, be positively influenced by our national culture and arts, and understand the key to longevity.
Main attractions include Xueyang Cave (Xueyang dong), Miracle-working Doctor Grotto (Shenyi shiku), Stone Forest carving Chinese Character “Shou” (longevity) (Shouzi beilin) and Sandaoguan Pass (a pass with three layers of Wall).

International Sand Skiing Amusement Center
The Center is located in the middle section of the Golden Beach, where a verdant forest belt covering an area of more than 5000 acres sets off sand dunes stretching more than 40 kilometers. Blended with the sea as a magic backdrop, the scenic spot presents a breathtaking and natural view with sand dunes setting in the sea. As an emerging sport in China, sand skiing is provided at the Center and has become an exclusive tourist attraction along the Golden Beach. Since 1985 when the Center was open to the general public, the sport has been very popular with tourists.

Jieshishan (Jieshishan Mountain)
The scenic spot of Jieshishan Mountain is distributed around the major peak Xiantaiding (Fairyland Peak). The beauty of Jieshishan landscape can be appreciated right from Jieshimen (the Gate of Jieshi), one kilometer north of Changli County.
As the branch of the Yanshan Mountains, Jieshishan Mountain has nearly one hundred rolling peaks. Renowned statesmen ascended Jieshishan Mountian successively and they are: Emperor Qi Shi Huang of the Qin Dynasty (the First Emperor), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Cao Cao, a central figure in the Three Kingdoms Period and Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty.
The scenic spot is encircled by mountains and embraces the water. It is famed for lofty peaks in diverse shapes, abundant fruit trees on the hillside, boat trips on crystal clear water and scores of places of interest.
Main attractions include Fairyland Peak (Xiantai ding), Five-Peak Mountain (Wufeng shan), Temple of Hanwengong (Hanwengong ci), Jieyang Lake (Jieyang hu) and the Pagoda of Yuanying Temple (Yuanyingsi ta).
Zushan Mountain
Zushan Mountain, also known as Laoling, is situated in the southeastern part of Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County. The mountain occupies a vast area covering over 80 square kilometers at the elevation of 1424 meters. It is one branch of the Yanshan Mountains. The scenic spot boasts towering peaks, green valleys, pouring waterfalls, a host of places of interest and a breathtaking view. The celebrated writer Junqing once had a high praise of the mountain, “Men are recommended not to give credit to the tours of Five Great Mountains because life would be meaningless without a visit to Zushan.”
Main attractions include Xiang Mountain (Xiangshan), Qipan Mountain (Chessboard Mountain), Flying Waterfall over Dragon Pond (Longtan feipu), Mountain of Flowers and Fruit (Huaguo shan), and Lily Magnolia (Tiannv mulanhua).
